JPS Africa NPC is a non-profit organization based in Pretoria seeks a Chief of Party (COP) to lead Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision program (VMMC). This position provides overall programmatic and technical leadership and managerial oversight for all aspects of project implementation. The COP is responsible for ensuring the technical and programmatic focus of the project is optimized, through effective management, regular monitoring, and timely and appropriate reprogramming. In close collaboration with Implementing Partners, National Department of Health (NDOH) and other key stakeholders and partners in South Africa, the COP leads the project team to ensure that the project achieves objectives and targets. The COP will work with and influence policy level, donor, technical, and program colleagues using negotiation, policy dialogue and presentation skills. Critical to the position’s success is the ability to be a change leader, and to motivate colleagues to a high level of performance. Strong communication skills and a fundamental understanding of regional and South African HIV/AIDS programming and funding trends will be crucial assets, as well as in depth appreciation and understanding of the roles that non-medical health workers can play in extending quality treatment services.
Required qualifications include:
- Advanced medical degree, master’s in public health or equivalent qualifications.
- Advanced qualification in management; Advanced qualification in Monitoring and evaluation.
- 10 years successful work experience with progressively more senior planning and management responsibilities in HIV/AIDS programs including VMMC direct service delivery, demand generation and training.
- Understanding of global health and development trends and approaches.
- Demonstrated self motivated manager, with a facility for and adaptability to managing pressure situations.
- Strong management and organizational and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated results-oriented focus to program management.
- Strong verbal, written and presentation skills in English and at least one other South African language.
- Willingness to travel within South Africa up to 50% of the time.
The successful applicant will possess knowledge of current evidenced-based HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment trends and best practices in Southern Africa; competency-based training experience with voluntary medical male circumcision in South Africa; experience working in or collaborating with the governmental, NGO or private sectors in South Africa; knowledge and sensitivity to working with multi cultural groups; and experience in program monitoring and evaluation. Experience in developing and making professional presentations at high levels required. This position is based in Pretoria.
